Infusion therapy with drip phleboclysis for the treatment of anxiety and depression
WHAT IS THE INFUSION THERAPY?
The intravenous administration of medicaments by means of infusion (slow phleboclysis) for the treatment of mental disorders has a long tradition in several European countries.
Up until a few years ago, it was used only in cases of depression and severe psychotic anxiety and it was administered during hospitalization.
Nowadays, the indications for infusion protocols also include cases of pharmacological "resistance", pharmacophobia, poor compliance, and cases when there is a need for continuous medical supervision both for the patient and his/her family members.
Infusion protocols offer several advantages also in terms of quick response and therefore quicker relief of the disorders the patient is suffering from.
Some medications are actually much more effective when administered by means of the infusion therapy and the method also works on those individuals who have not improved by taking the same medications in the form of pills or drops.
Almost all infusion protocols do not require hospitalization; they can be administered at the day-center with several advantages and in a totally safe way.
WHAT ARE ITS ADVANTAGES?
Higher tolerability, reduced side effects, generally slower reaction time.
HOW TO BEGIN?
Patients access the Day-Center to be treated with the infusion therapy after a specialist examination, which is necessary to provide a diagnosis and to draw up an initial treatment protocol.
The infusion therapy in the Day-Center can also begin after an urgent examination requested by the patient’s general practitioner.
WHO IS THE INFUSION THERAPY MOST SUITABLE FOR?
- For patients that did not improve with previous treatments, which were administered orally.
- For older patients or for patients with other medical problems, which require extremely careful supervision of the dosage of administered medications or specific medical assessment during the therapy.
- For patients who are not constant in taking their medications.
- In general, any time patients want to get well as quickly as possible
